About Briana

I’ve been in private practice in Tacoma’s north end for twenty-two years, treating acute & chronic pain, digestive and immune system imbalances, autonomic dysfunction, depression, anxiety, grief, insomnia, fatigue, as well as providing stress relief and preventive care. I received a master’s degree from the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (Seattle, WA) in 2002. I am licensed in Washington State (AC 00001972) and a diplomate of the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). My education is rooted in the classical tradition of Chinese medicine, with additional training in a very gentle style of Japanese acupuncture, known as Toyohari meridian therapy, certified by the Toyohari Association of Japan. I’m an active member of the Toyohari Association of North America (TANA) and have participated in ongoing training, here in the Pacific Northwest and in Tokyo.

Before transitioning to healthcare, I designed furniture and lighting for several years, after completing an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design. While these fields may seem quite different, there are actually some surprising similarities in the contextual thinking (observing processes and patterns to find ways to improve function and affect experience) that both good design and good health require. I frequently draw on design methodology while working with people to realize a creative, connected, whole-life experience of wellness and ease, which we all seem to be seeking in our own ways. When I’m not treating or studying, I enjoy time with family, cooking, metalsmithing, exploring natural places, and tending my home garden.

Like many others who find their way to healing work, my journey began with a difficult illness. After exhausting what conventional medicine had to offer at the time, I was profoundly moved by the pain relief, deep healing and buoyancy this ancient medicine brought to my life. It’s a real honor to share it with others. The benefits of acupuncture extend far beyond the treatment table, and offer practical resources to live our most balanced, joyful, and energetic lives.
